Sexual harassment and abuse are widespread and affect women of all ages, races, and backgrounds. In a 2021 survey the National Sexual Violence Resource Center estimates that 𝟖𝟏% of women and 𝟒𝟑% of men have experienced some form of sexual harassment or assault in their lifetime. 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙞𝙚𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢.

At work, 𝟕𝟓% of women experience sexual harassment, 𝟏 𝐢𝐧 𝟓 have experienced sexual assault. Women are also more likely to be harassed or assaulted in public spaces, such as on the street or in public transportation.

The effects of this are devastating, both physically and emotionally. Victims may experience anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other mental health problems. They may also have difficulty trusting others and may withdraw from social activities.

We can all play a role in preventing sexual harassment and abuse by speaking out against it, and by creating a culture of respect and safety.
